Record Services

The Office of Library and Archives (OLA) provides a range of record management services to ensure that government information is properly created, maintained, and preserved for accountability, transparency, and public access. OLA is committed to maintaining the integrity and accessibility of Papua New Guinea’s official records  ensuring they serve as a reliable foundation for good governance, decision-making, and historical preservation.

Our Key Record Services are;

  1. Records Management Advice
    Guidance to government departments and agencies on best practices for creating, organizing, and maintaining official records in both physical and digital formats.
  2. Records Appraisal and Disposal
    Assistance in identifying which records have continuing value and should be transferred to the National Archives, and which may be lawfully disposed of after their retention period.
  3. Records Storage and Preservation
    Secure storage and conservation of government records in climate-controlled environments to ensure long-term preservation of important historical and administrative information.
  4. Records Retrieval and Access
    Controlled access to archived government records for authorized officers, researchers, and the public, in accordance with OLA’s access policy.
  5. Training and Capacity Building
    Workshops and training for record officers and public servants to strengthen records management practices across government agencies.
