The Office of Libraries and Archives is responsible for:

Building and maintaining the national collection of books, records, and publications.
Supporting public, school, and community libraries throughout PNG.
Preserving government documents and national archives.
Promoting reading, literacy, and lifelong learning.
Providing access to information for education, research, and national planning.
Advising on record management and information policies across government agencies.

Mandate

The Office of Libraries & Archives Services is enacted through the decision 31 of 1993, which is the provision of the National Library & Archives Act 1993.

The Office of Libraries & Archives Services is governed by the Minister of Education and the Board which oversees the Director General who is the agency head.
