The Office of Library and Archives (OLA) provides Conservation Services to protect and preserve Papua New Guinea’s documentary heritage for current and future generations. Our conservation work ensures that valuable library and archival materials remain stable, accessible, and safe from deterioration. OLA is dedicated to ensuring the long-term preservation and protection of Papua New Guinea’s documentary heritage, combining traditional conservation methods with modern technologies to safeguard the nation’s memory
Our Conservation Services are;
- Preservation Assessment
Evaluation of the physical condition of records, books, photographs, and manuscripts to determine the best conservation and preservation methods. - Cleaning and Restoration
Gentle cleaning, repair, and stabilization of damaged or fragile documents using appropriate archival techniques and materials. - Environmental Monitoring
Maintaining controlled temperature, humidity, and light conditions in storage areas to prevent damage from mould, insects, and environmental changes. - Preventive Conservation
Implementing protective measures such as proper handling, housing, and disaster preparedness to reduce risks before damage occurs. - Digitization Support
Preparing fragile or endangered documents for digitization to enhance preservation and improve access for users.
