Archives Services
The Office of Library and Archives (OLA) preserves, protects, and provides access to Papua New Guinea’s documentary heritage through its Archives Services. These services ensure that valuable government and historical records are properly maintained for future generations and made accessible to the public in accordance with the law. We are committed to safeguarding the nation’s memory, ensure that Papua New Guinea’s historical records remain accessible, authentic, and preserved for generations to come.
Our Key Archives Services are;
- Records Transfer and Custody
OLA receives and safeguards government records that are no longer in active use but hold continuing administrative, legal, or historical value. - Preservation and Conservation
We care for records using archival standards — including cleaning, restoration, and proper storage — to prevent deterioration and ensure long-term protection. - Digitization and Access
OLA digitizes selected archives to improve access for researchers, students, and the public through our Online Archives Platform and reading room services. - Research and Reference Services
Researchers can access public records at the National Archives reading rooms. Our staff assist with locating materials and provide guidance on the use of archival collections. - Outreach and Awareness
OLA promotes awareness of Papua New Guinea’s documentary heritage through exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.
